Any list of film composers that doesn't list John Williams at number 1 and lists Jerry Goldsmith ahead of him loses some credibility in my book. Granted, it's a matter of taste.

Williams may have taken some inspiration from other works. But to borrow a phrase from Mad Men's Bert Cooper, "Who cares?"

This list seems to be focused on the main themes of the films, another area in which Williams is unequaled. But the score has to go beyond the theme music, and here's where Williams stands out. Most composers just pass the time with notes. A Williams score tells the entire story of the film just in the music.

"“Phantom Menace” is about to pass the original “Star Wars” at the box office. You combine that with the fact that Barack Obama’s approval rating sits at 49% today and suddenly I’m starting to lose faith in my fellow countrymen."

And Episode IV will take it back when it gets re-released in 3 years. Relax.

Oh, and lay off Phantom Menace. It's not really that bad. It actually was drawing a fresh rating at RottenTomatoes before they started counting wishy-washy neutral internet reviews for the 3D version as bad reviews.

The MPAA is not a censorship agency nor is it a government agency. It's an organization created by the studios to regulate themselves. The MPAA will actually tell the studios how to trim the film to make it a better rating for their bottom line and usually the studios will comply. The ones who usually cry censorship if a movie is rated R instead of PG-13 or NC-17 instead of R are the directors, and usually only indie directors, who have the choice to release the film without the MPAA stamp anyway.

Why must everyone overlook Bill's obvious point about Tony Bennett's rant for legalization of drugs: the drugs Whitney was taking were legal prescription drugs. Legalizing narcotics wouldn't have done anything to help her. In fact I kind of don't get Bennett's point at all. Legalizing drugs is more of a personal choice issue, not a helping drug users issue. You legalize drugs because you think people should have the choice. And if they OD, tough on them, it was their choice. Is Bennett advocating legalization with government-funded drug treatment? Given some of his nutty statements of late that wouldn't surprise me.

I wonder what George and Miley would rather have, the $1 billion, or your declaration of "awesomeness."

At least the money is absolute.

No offense.

Your is not the same as You're

"The problem is that he practically forces us to purchase his inferior recuts"

He forces us? Does he send stormtroopers to our house to drive us to Best Buy? He doesn't force us to buy anything. He just tells us that if we want to own Star Wars, these are the versions we have to buy. If you don't like that but buy it anyway, you have to blame yourself a little

The Smithsonian scene was great. Especially when they blow out the back wall of the Washington DC museum and walk into an aircraft boneyard in Arizona.

The 2nd and 3rd movies don't really inspire rewatching. The first one is still the best of the three.

Successful enough to spawn a sequel, which seems to return back to the American military roots. Cobra has taken over the White House!
