Definitely also check out Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. And Porco Rosso. And Castle in the Sky. And Kiki's Delivery Service. And then go to Japan and to the Ghibli museum and watch all the shorts that they have there....

the only reason i'm interested is because van sant was attached to this for a while. the fact that he saw something in the script or the novel or whatever, makes me a little more excited about it.
