Almost didn't come here. Didn't need convincing. But your punchy, well-written summary of our relentless advance toward meteorological suicide made me glad I overrode myself.

Moved a copy right into Evernote for future reference. Will use it to hose down overheated Rethugnacon deniers.

As for your concluding, more-than-rhetorical question ("Which begs the question; why aren't we?"), I'd venture a simple (simplistic?) answer: Because there really is no "we" anymore.

There are those who thrive on a good dumbing-down, on appeals to their "values" (read "biases"), on mutually reinforced delusion (e.g., the past is the best gauge of what the future should look like; any ideas that disrupt economic routines are ipso facto untrue), on literal interpretations of ancient tomes, on the romance of Individualism, Market Supremacy, Personal Deities, and related Ayn Rand/John Wayne psychopathologies. They spend their lives rounding the wagons into a circle against heathen assault while chanting "no".

And there are those who make independent inquiries and try to make decisions based on confirmed, replicable evidence. They camp in the open and say "yes" a lot.

"We" won't be resolving global warming collectively (pace that al-Qaeda appeaser in the big white house without an American birth certificate).

There no longer is any "we". Thank you Leo Strauss, thank you Milton Friedman, thank you FOX.
