You'd be great as Harold Hill! Wish I could have seen that. :)

One of my current dreams is that they'll do a multi-ethnic live TV production of The Music Man and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be Harold. It would be amazing.

Oh! Almost forgot the awesomely meta official website for this movie-- it was a fake fansite, Geocities style, as if the Galaxy Quest movie was, well, a Star Trek movie-- a movie based on the series. It's supposedly run by a Questerian who's super excited about the movie coming out. Sadly, it got taken down a few years ago, but due to the magic of the Wayback Machine, you can still experience it in all it's horrible late-90s glory.

I love this movie. It's one that immediately got added to our "Movies my family quotes" list.

I think my favorite Star Trek in-joke reference comes at the very end, and you have to really think about it to make sense. Guy spends the whole time talking about how he was a redshirt and his character wasn't even important enough to get a name, right? And scared he's going to get killed off, right? So, in the new series, he gets a real part, with a name and a credit in the opening. Awesome. So what's his new role? Security chief.

Do we all remember what happened to the first security chief in the second Star Trek series?

It's golden.

That's what I got too, especially when he's talking about how Kwan isn't even his real name.

Apparently one of the things that got left on the cutting room floor is that the reason Fred is so chill about the whole thing (and also always eating) is that he's stoned. Which totally makes sense (but I'm also fine with it not being in there, because it's actually funnier to me if that's just the way he is instead of that he's on mind-altering substances).

In some ways, the reset button is the easy way out. But in other ways, I think the tragedy and selfishness of Annorax is highlighted in it. He's spent 200 years trying to undo a single mistake, erasing billions of people from existence with no conscience whatsoever. When in fact, the key to undoing his mistake was not to sacrifice millions and billions of other people-- it was to sacrifice himself. Which apparently, he was never willing to do.

Kind of a profound thought, don't you think?

I actually wrote a Doctor Who/ Voyager Crossover fic where the two un-named Doctors meet (it's Ten rather than Eleven, though). It's still a bit spoilery for Voyager, though. I might link to it when we get there.

If this episode existed for no other reason than for this scene, it would be a worthwhile episode. See also: TNG's Schisms, just for "Ode to Spot."

Luckily, it's also a good episode in it's own right. :D

Square One is the BEST. I still sing "Less than Zero" and "Ghost of a Chance" to myself, I complain of having a Data Headache (cured by a pie chart!), and my family quotes Mathnet all the time ("One, one, two, three, five, EUREKA!" and "No, Scarlet, this is Frankly, and I don't give a--"). And more! Dirk Niblick! Mathman! Blackstone! Such good stuff. I wish the series were available on DVD or streaming or somewhere other than bad YouTube transfers. :P

Dean Cain is mine, but Reeve is a very, very close second.
