great to have you back guys. Sounds like you've had a good start to the season. At our store we have had a sudden influx of new blood, unfortunately no new DM's, so as we run a double session on a fortnightly basis I agreed to run the third new table on the alternate weeks (I get to play more D&D so not a major issue).
All three of our tables have now played their first sessions and it looks like everyone has followed the Bows and bears route.

We've been playing the first 2 chapters of Lost Mine and I've amended the note in the Redbrands lair to read "...maps in their possession are delivered to me with haste at the camp near Greenest." so hopefully they will want to follow that lead up and give a reason to be going to Greenest. It does also mean that my players will be starting at least at level 2 but this shouldnt be a problem.

Maybe reward people that pay attention with something similar to the "Inspiration" system they used in the livestream of the Starter Set, give them advantage on their action.
Yes the arcane arrow does its arrow damage first then any spell effect, we joked about fitting it with a cure wounds spell between ourselves too.

I had the issue with the print out missing some parts of the monster stats too, my copy is the store provided one, I'm guessing its probably more an error from when they've imported the formatted text of the monsters into the document.

I run from printouts rather than a tablet and it can be a pain but its something I picked up during my prep so was able to fill in my notes before hand.

Tonight our 2nd DM cant make it so his group will be joining me for a session so I'm going to have them play "clones" of their normal pc's as other prisoners.

Regarding the new books release if the track record over here in the UK stays true we'll get ours nearer to October ha ha. I shall definitely be getting a a copy of the starter set once its available as well as the core books too.

I think, especially with the shift to running using Next, that the Encounters program itself has moved from the 4e fight-a-week format to more of a "traditional" D&D adventure/campaign.

Not totally a bad thing but as you say the last season could have benefitted from some sort of guide on how to split the adventure over the allocated sessions.

Thankfully the new season seems to have picked up on this, though there is still an awful lot of content to fit in. Saying that though, I ran a table at this weekends Launch event and in a 3 hour game our group managed to get through the suggested encounter, enter the city, have a tour, and then set off on their first "task" and get about a third of the way through it! It didnt feel rushed at all and I didnt want to "short change" players that had made the effort to come out on weekend to what could have ended up being little more than a fight and a RP interaction lasting no more than an hour.

I havent done a write up for the Launch yet as I'm combining it with this weeks Wednesday session's but I'm looking forward to listening to your take on the season as always.

Thanks guys.

I know what you guys mean with the limited time available. My plan for my group is to spend this week and next dealing with the Verbeeg Lair and ending with them finding the way to then take them into act 3 and the ice witch's tower which I'm planning on doing a floor per week for the remaining 3 sessions. This may sound like the sessions will be short but with the group averaging 7-9 players a week combats can fill out and after the skeletal dragon and simulacrum being a huge let down combat-wise I intend to "beef" the ecounters (even running the increased stats from the wotc community pages the damage output of enemies is low compared to the heroes and so they dont feel threatened most of the time).

Happy New Year guys, glad to hear none of your were too badly affected by the weather.

We're back to our Encounters this evening and will be running the Interval this week. As the party havent had any encounters with the Ice Witch or her machinations so far I'm going to have them journeying back from the dwarves to find Ten Towns under attack. They will see a horde of barbarians/yetis etc ataacking the town and fighting the defenders as well has seeing the Ice Witch (simulacrum) and skeletal dragon co-ordinating fro the rear so they'll have a choice of targets.

One thing I noticed during play last session is that there doesnt seem to be any limit placed on the Clerics Turn Undead ability at present. So the waves of dwarf zombies I planned to terrify my players with turned into more of a comedy chase as the cleric just made them all flee. Any thoughts on scaling the Turn by Clerics level/HD affected?

With regards the "free" copy of the PDF for Scourge of the Sword Coast see http://www.wizards.com/wpn/News/Article.aspx?x=20.... It will have a copy of the playtest rules with it, in a similar way to the Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle, hopefully it may include a few updates.

Great podcast again guys, like the idea of posting them before sessions for the coming season and the calender/planner idea sounds excellent - would love to see what you've come up with on that.
