This is going to be hard. :-) Nice to meet the "real" you, though!

"I want him to look back on his service to our country with pride (not the evil selfish kind that I talked about earlier this week... but the honorable, humble kind!)."

Just "being there" is something to be proud of (although I understand his frustration and disappointment). Reminds me of the last line of Milton's "On His Blindness" http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/on-his-blindness/.

I love that you are supporting your man in his dreams. There's a lesson in that for all of us (married or not).

It's a good thing you're sharing these thoughts because I wouldn't have thought to!

God definitely takes us outside our comfort zones. That's where we grow (and learn to trust Him). He takes us beyond ourselves. That's a constant state for me, actually. :-)

I wonder . . . Thinking out loud here. ;-) I don't really think of myself apart from God. I was raised as a Christian so there has never been a time when I thought of myself as being on my own. Maybe I just automatically figure God into everything? I need to keep that assumption in mind when sharing with other people because they might not do that!

I appreciate your thoughts, April. They make me think!

Hmm. It never occurred to me that "handle" could mean "handle on your own!"

God won't give you more than you can handle--with Him. And "handle" according to His definition, not yours. ;-)
