I loved the article although in my experience I wouldnt consider it a class issue but definitely part of the "special snowflake" issue and this whole concept that your taste is an indicator of your quality as a person.
The way that we have been taught how to consume has made us think that our purchases *mean* something. But actually we are all buying things that just reflect our very specific demographic and so me buying some sort of bourbon infused pulled pork thing is the same as the basic girl buying her pumpkin spiced latte.
We are all just judgy little meatbags buying shit. I find that oddly adorable.

Of course! Former champions can compete again but as in The Hunger Games most never do as they are irreparably damaged from whatever violent acts won them the crown.

They say that when a baby starts speaking to a presence invisible in the night, you shouldnt go in to stop them as the best thing to do is to leave them in the shadows conversing softly until they tire and sleep. But I dont know, am I being cruel to my baby?

Oh god the nymag comments are so dumb. I read one that said something to the effect of "i look at the question and only half read the response" which is just mind mindbogglingly idiotic as every word Polly writes is pure gold. Why would a person just half read pure gold?!
However the advice is still beautiful and I hope she is getting a good paycheck so I guess it is all good? Id still only want to discuss her columns with the Toasties.

That was awful, that was so so awful and Ive just realized that it was a woman that wrote it which has depressed me even more.
At first I was angry but actually I think it is just sad that attitudes to sex are so off kilter that some women dont even feel like they should need to give enthusiastic consent, that they feel like they need to be cajoled in to sex with the hope that they *might* enjoy it later.
Men have never had to think this way about sex, and generally speaking (yes I realize there are exceptions) they worry comparatively less about whether they are "might" enjoy the sex. They know they will.
Women's arousal is complicated and clearly not prioritized or even understood enough and the yes movement is so important because it prioritizes it and says sex should happen when the woman wants it to happen and yes both parties will enjoy it all way more this way.

The article on Chinese restaurant workers destroyed me.
The Ruth Thalia article ground whatever was left in to dust.
And now Im starting the consent article. Oh god.

Oh god the advice was to cut her off! That's just cruel. Also ... there are families willing to use the same sex toys.Wow. Just wow. Different strokes I guess?

Thank you so much for writing this letter because I saw so much of myself in it and I needed to hear Polly's advice.
I also had the issue where I did well at school without trying and for so long I thought it was because I never learned to try that now I am so lazy and I am also paralysed by anxiety about how lazy I am and I always thought that there was something wrong with *me* and it never occured to me that I behave this way because Im so goddam unhappy.
I think I need to make some changes, and I dont know what they are but I really believe that I (and from your letter, you too) will be completely different people if we could find somewhere where we would thrive. This is very cheesy, but all the best to you!
