Yep. Only I've lost any pride I ever had as well.

Saw this under the "You might also like . . . "heading, so I thought I'd check it out. I have this on a shelf somewhere. So? Did you like it?

So, I have a bad habit of forgetting that not everything in the blogosphere is autobiographical. This isn't, right? I had to read your previous post to get a hint of what this might be about.

Very powerful writing.

You and your wife. You're okay, right?

;-)

I began Nano this year, like I do every year, with high hopes and the the thread of a story. Just a tiny thread, generally, that I plan to "flesh out" as the month progresses. A couple years ago, I made it to just over 20k works. Last year was a flop. This year, I too put mine up online, hoping to get some feedback as the story developed, and also realizing for the first time that this Nano thing might just work best if it is shared, since this isn't really writing, after all. I didn't make it past day six.

I'll check out your story. Mine is at http://thethingthatisthething.wordpress.com. It ain't much. And I can't promise I'll finish what you've got any time soon.

But if it means that much to you, then by all means, write. Get it out of your head. Only then can it begin to grow . . .

Thank you Ann, Kathryn, and Christine. And thank you, Ron, for allowing me to share this space with you. It truly is an honor . . .

I'm pretty sure I've never been on any list. I've never written a book. I am not a brand. I get like 40 hits a day. I tweet what I want, write about what I want, and hardly ever use Facebook, even though it's the shit at present. I never even had a MySpace page. And I've never uploaded a YouTube video.

I'm also quite certain that I'm a mediocre dad.

And yet I write. Not often. Not without cliche or hyperbole. Not perfectly. But I write. I don't get my kids most days, and I have worn a spot from scratching my head so much.

Ron, there is no way in hell this one particular fella can derail your plans. Opportunities are limitless right now, and you're niche awaits in one venue or another. And if there is no fit, then I have confidence that you will pave your own trail. You're that good. And I'm not just saying that. You know my heart . . .

So write on. When you feel like it. Otherwise? Live.

Peace, out.

I have a son who is in much the same sea. Our boys might share a boat, in fact. He's a daydreamer, and a bit of a trivia hound. He used to get in trouble a lot for appearing to not pay attention, but teachers soon found out that he's soaking in much more than they realize. And he's starting middle school next year.

We are fortunate that he's never been in a fight. There have been times where hauling off and slugging a kid would have been more than justified. But he just chose not to go there. He internalizes like that, preferring to keep it bottled up, and then take it out on some green dude in a video game or a pile of sticks in the yard.

Interesting times, these . . .

Great post.
