There are redheads threaded through the family (currently my aunt and one cousin). I got the paleness and freckles and easy sunburn, but my hair is a darker brown.

I think it's a little bit like the better parts of the EU- they've become so normalized that people forget what an achievement it is to have them.

My mom refers to this as "dad's lectures," which he would mostly deliver when he was in the car. They would either be on music history (great! he used to go to punk shows in DC in the 80s, so he knew good shit) or his job as a lawyer dealing with communications regulatory issues, which I think everyone but me found boring. But now that I'm an academic in media studies I find myself drawing on the lectures more and more to explain things about how the US television system works.

My favorite soccer team Arsenal has a 6'6" German player that has been nicknamed the BFG. What "BFG" stands for...well, that depends on the age of the person asking.

My parents' beloved (and mythologized) former dog was half German Shorthaired Pointer, half Irish Setter. She was pretty bright, so my parents were sort of amazed when they met a full Irish Setter.

Irish Setters are kind of dopey, though.

Most of them are really good! Ironically, for someone known for his politics, his non-political songs are way better than the political ones (which are mostly as awkward as Sexuality, barring maybe Waiting for the Great Leap Forward and From Red to Blue).
