Sorry to hear this one was a bust. I feel like I'm super critical of mysteries moreso than other genres sometimes, because so much has to be perfect for me to like it...suspense, ending, characters, etc.

Thanks for sharing your review! I just started this one the other day and I am definitely intrigued so far. I'm happy to know that it doesn't focus on the trial too much, because I'm really enjoying the family background.

Ouch, I just reviewed this one today and had a very opposite reaction!! lol. But I can see what you mean about the monotony of the writing at times. I think I got so wrapped in the mystery and figuring out the characters that it didn't bother me overall. I have definitely had the experience of one aspect of a book totally overriding everything else though, so I understand.
Also, had to laugh at your above comment because I was not a fan of Help for the Haunted...lol...I guess we have different taste in mysteries! :)

I think this sounds like such a very cool concept for a novel. I can't wait to read it! It's like, half creepy (the whole resurrection thing) and half drama. As for what I would do if my loved one wasn't coming back...I don't know if I would DO anything per se, but I'd certainly be a bit mad/jealous, because who wouldn't be? I'm interested to read the book to see how the characters handle this...

Gorgeous photos! I too grew up in New England (Connecticut) and I miss the scenery from time to time. I've got lots of mountains to look at here in upstate NY, but it's just not the same as those coastal scenes.
Glad you got to visit Portland. My husband and I visited there a few years ago for our 1st anniversary. It's such a cool town, very laid back and picturesque. Can't wait to go back some time!

I hate when a bad translation ruins a novel for me. Part of me feels like I should give the book the benefit of the doubt and finish it (maybe it's really good, it's just the translator that's bad?) but you can only suffer through bad phrasing for so long.

Great review! I agree that Zuckoff's writing just sucks you in, in a way that a lot of nonfiction does not. I can't wait to read his other book now.

I love when authors are able to take complex relationships between characters and make them work so well within the plot. Great review! I'll have to check this one out.

Oh wow...I need to read this. BADLY. It's amazing how much clutter kids create! Thanks for sharing your review.

Thanks for this review! Ever since the movie made headlines, I've been curious about the book (because I haven't seen many reviews, honestly).
