When we moved from MA to CT, I went to the DMV to get a "not a license" ID card (I didn't, at the time, drive) and my husband went at the same time to get his CT driver's license. FIVE HOURS LATER, we staggered out. The process was broken up into 5 or 6 steps, and the actual steps themselves were very quick, it was just that you'd wait 45 minutes to an hour in between to be called to do the next step.

Glad I brought a book.

Poor life choices? No thanks, I've made enough of those! I'm only now climbing out of the deep well of wasted time and money they gifted me with.

Saw Frank Langella as Dracula on the Broadway stage three times (the version with the infamous b&w Edward Gorey stage set), it was fantastic and he was devastatingly sexy. The movie version that resulted from the success of the play sucked (heh) in comparison. They wouldn't let him do the accent and really toned him down as Dracula for the big screen, and I get why they did it, but they should have taken a chance and let him go! If they'd let the movie be as fun as the play, people would still love it today. It seems to be largely forgotten now.

Speaking as someone who trained a Fearful Biter into becoming an "I love children and people!" cat, it's never the cat who's hatey, it's generally the previous owners who made her that way. I wish Illy the Cat much luck in finding a truly good person who deserves and understands her and knows she cannot help if "angry" is how her face is! My Fearful Biter had a constantly-worried expression that endeared him to anyone who saw him, and we named him "Zach" in honor of Dr. Zachery "The pain! The pain!" Smith (from Lost in Space.)

You seem delightfully knowledgeable and this isn't the kind of thing I can google, so perhaps you can tell me: is 1970s Shalimar different from today's Shalimar? Because I was shocked to see you can still buy it, or at least a perfume with that name. Wikipedia says today's scent is different, but not how it's different: I assume it's made differently (presumably with SCIENCE! the formulation got easier & cheaper to mass-produce), but is it still a spicy "oriental" scent? 1970s Shalimar was my mother's scent and I have several of her Shalimar by Guerlain soaps that I bought her for Mom's Day back then, and they are still heavy with the odor of bergamot and vanilla after all these years. Perfume gives me migraine so I really shouldn't go sniffing, but I wondered if today's Shalimar is worthy of the name.

Good luck with your insurance problems--not sure how your mom got to the sarcastic "thanks, Obama" place, but despite a few problems, I still say "thanks, Obama" without sarcasm, as I wouldn't have had my Hashimoto's Disease treated without it. I'm lucky to live in CT, which provides its citizens with helpers to walk you through the process of applying every year. Every state should handle the ACA as well as CT does and it's probably your local politician's fault, not the presidents, if your state is screwed up.

This post, indeed, this website, appears to have shown up just when I needed it most as I stare into the abyss of a divorce, finding a job, learning to drive, etc. OF COURSE what I need to become is a super-villain. It's all so clear to me now.
