I can't get over how truly edgy was the first song on their first album. It's a screed against Manifest Destiny. From a CHRISTIAN BAND. As a kid from a pretty conservative Christian household it made me reconsider history VERY differently than how I'd been taught.

The chorus:

"West or bust
in God we trust
lets rape, lets kill,
lets lets steal!

We can almost justify
anything we feel

I'm climbing up that ladder
more brownie points for me
work my way to Jesus -
just you wait and see."

I haven't followed CCM in MANY years but I can't help but think those lyrics would not fly like, at all.

If you could pass on my sincerest thanks to this former member for having a hand in making music that helped me through some dark times as a teen, it would be greatly appreciated!

Needs more The Alchemist and aforementioned Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance but otherwise bulls-eye.

"I'm gonna go subdue Dreamland with my conquistasnoring"

It's a little clunky. I feel like we could really hammer this into something special with some of elbow juice.

"he’s conquistasnoring"

This was the genesis of this post, right? I really hope so.

"Checking off six months on the calendar for maternity leave, and another six months after for paternity leave, except for gay couples, who are given nineteen months just because."

With #2 on the horizon this sounds like nirvana. My workplace is at least very accomodating as much as they can and emotionally supportive so I can't complain too much. But man. Paternity leave! That would be great.

You know I haven't seen Interstellar though I want to. BUT from what I know about it, it sounds like GotG meets that and JA right in the middle. 'The bees don't lie' line is great, and I've also taken to yelling at awkward moments. "Where is the BBQ SAUCE?"

It was so much fun! I have described it as "classical sci-fi with everything good and bad that implies" and I think that's a good way to manage expectations. Sure the dialogue is a little flat and the characters are kind of wooden buuuuuuuut that's not exactly the point.

Anyway. I hope you enjoy. Expect an update in next week's thread.

Specifically I want to watch the scenes on the bureau planet frame by frame to see how I much I missed the first time around. Also to see that exact moment when C3P0 With A Face loses his ability to keep it together.
