I've heard about this on Brannon Howse's World View Weekend radio show that I listen to on the VCY America networks (conservative Christian radio that is mostly in the midwest/plains region). He presented very similar to what you have, and always tells to line up the book, whatever it is, to the Bible and see whether it matches or not. Jesus Calling does not, and there are many out there who are current authors who do not line up with the Bible but lead Christians astray if possible. That is the time we live in, and we must ourselves know the Bible for ourselves, be in it on our own, learn it, hide it in our hearts, in order to be able to see the books/authors/preachers/beliefs/doctrines that do not line up with the bible.

I also have to end up doing the yard work, with a push mower or reel mower depending on whether the gas one works or not. I also am gardening in order to put food back for winter and maybe sell some at farmers market to subsidize hubby's disability income.

Please don't judge a woman totally on her home. You don't know the circumstances of her daily life. Having my limitations in physical ability doesn't make me less of a Christian. I have to lean more on the Lord. Oh, I used to keep a sparkling house that would make any Type A proud...but that was long ago before my back gave way.

A sparkling clean house does not a Christian make....

My floors aren't always mopped and clean. My bathroom isn't sparkling regardless of time of day or night. I don't always get the litter box scooped daily. My vaccuming isn't done daily, and when it is done, it takes a shop vac to get all the pieces of paper and rocks and whatever else the kids and hubby have tracked through or dropped or whatever--I just can't bend and pick it all up and expect to get anything else done. It may take a week to put away the clothes I washed and got back in off the line. I do the dishes by hand, and the family can make tons of dirty dishes (even when using styrofoam they can somehow create a ton) in a day. My days are mostly spent trying to keep the family fed and clothed, and beyond that is extra. I could use help and I do ask hubby to do things (and get turned down, or told "I'll do it later", which doesn't ever come), and I have to do one on one with the kids to have them help (special needs kids).

In my position, my back is blown (herniated disc at the vertebrae that houses the sciatic nerve, along side congenital scoliosis that has my back literally twisted to the right and upward toward the front), and there's major arthritis in hips, knees, and ankles from years of working in nursing. I'm only 34. I'm in pain a lot, but I do what I can. Due to our income and lack of certain appliances, I must wash our clothing by hand on a scrub board, wring by hand, and hang dry. This is an all day event many days--if I'm gonna wash them I'm gonna do it right and get them clean and fully rinsed. I cook from scratch most days (or semi scratch if I have things on hand), including baking and regular scratch cooking. I sew many of our clothing as well as to sell to earn a little extra income, and also sew for some ladies at church who don't know how. I have a disabled hubby who is home all the time, but instead of helping with any chores besides taking out trash, he and the kids create more than I can keep up with. I try.

I honestly grow weary of the "your place is a spic and span spotless household" type blogs. Seriously. Yes, we as homemakers need to keep working on our homes, doing our day to day tasks. But what about the ones who have physical limitations that don't allow for all the scrubbing and sparkly clean daily chores?

Thank you for writing this! This has been on my own heart for a while, and I wish I could have said it as clearly and fluently as you! I want my own little Avatar to be a Godly woman, being an inspiration to others and showing others the light of the Lord...at times quite hard to do when this side of the Avatar isn't so perfect and glowing, with quirks and problems and stresses in life.
