My prudish, sweet mom watched Trainspotting with my brother and me when we were dirtbag teens. Described it as "Not a feel-good movie."

Once, after my brother moved out, he called her from his new place saying he found a spider and asked her to come kill it for him. He said she was quiet for a moment and then said, "Okay, honey." He was joking with her, but knew she'd say yes.

Oh, and she cannot tell a joke without laughing all the way through it.

The more stressed out I get, the less intuitive I am. Or at least I don't notice it.

My family has this witchery, too. Sometimes it's manifested in non-verbal responses, other times it's very specific. I don't know why, but I'm always surprised or full of disbelief when it happens.

A sampling of solid Twitter follows right now:

@ChrisKingStL is a good Twitter source. He works for the St. Louis American (@StLouisAmerican) newspaper and has a ton of contacts and information.

@AntonioFrench, a former journalist, is a St. Louis City alderman who has been on the ground pretty much all day every day since Mike Brown was killed.

@ACLU_MO is the ACLU of Missouri.

@Patricialicious is Patricia Bynes, Democratic committeewoman of Ferguson. A delegate for Missouri's 1st Congressional District. She's been at all the protest events and, among other things, has helped give kids rides home when the police have shut down roads.

Thank you for writing about the Michael Brown shooting. I've been sticking to mostly local St. Louis sources for coverage, so I missed the ones you highlighted here.
