When our divorce was final a couple of years ago, I posted an announcement of sorts on Facebook. In it, I noted that of all the major life events one experiences, divorce is the only one where it's not customary or socially acceptable to send an announcement about it. We do it for graduations, new jobs, engagements, new homes, births / adoptions, retirements - but not for divorce. Why?

After 20+ years together, and 3 kids, ours had to happen, for a variety of reasons. Like you, there are ways we get along better now, even as the old dynamics still flare from time to time. Some friends have remarked that if they divorce they hope theirs goes as well as ours appears to be going. I'll take that as a win. It's not easy and it's messy, but there are ways to minimize the impact on everyone.
