It was hilarious and I loved it.

A close family friend once passionately argued that it was definitely about the loss of the narrator's favorite pair of blue jeans. She was not kidding. The look of horror/utter delight on my father's face will stay with me forever.

But... I would have NEVER brought strange home to my parents house. I'm horrified. He can't even find a way to pay a few of their bills before they find out? UGH. BAN MEN. OVER IT.

I think some irrational feelings are normal in these siutations. It sounds almost cliche but it really helped when i was told and/or read "grief is not a straight line". And I think it's okay to have days that are extra hard and make you feel like you're taking steps back in recovering (even if you really, really aren't).
So I hope today goes as okay as it can for you. I hope you have a wonderful anniversary where you guys can talk about the best and maybe not-so best times. Enjoy those cocktails.

At my first corporate job, the VP who had hired me was an amazing woman/mentor figure and left about a year after I was hired. She'd always seemed charmed the little Bilbo Baggins Funko Pop figure I had at my desk so when she was leaving I bought one for her and wrote a quick note about how much I appreciated her and how I hoped her new job would be a grand adventure. She seemed sincerely touched when she saw the gift.
So I think champagne and note of similar sentiment make a great parting gift.

If you're going to to invest big bucks, I'd put that money into a decent frame. I spent around $180 on a frame that I immediately hated and ended up gifting to my parents. If I waited and not done panic-shopping, I would have had the money put aside when I found the frame I really liked. Check places like Wayfair. Some of the stuff isn't great but some of it is and is decently priced (they buy from some of the same suppliers my company gets stuff from, the Alpine furniture brands is one of my favorites and is what my headboard is).
For sheets, the sale section of Macys became my favorite hangout. The Martha Stewart brand has served me well when I can find it and snatch it up. They are always running specials so ask the people at the counter if they have any coupons you could use. If you stick to a King bed, you'll get lots of great deals. Also check out Marshal's but I'm a little more careful about the brands i buy there, I try to stick with the classics- DKNY, Ralph Lauren, etc.
Hope this provides some help! Yes it is annoying to have to pay extra compared to my old queen bed but man, now the dog and I can stretch out and sleep in peace!

I just remember thinking that I liked wearing my glasses while they prayed and my dad looked super uncomfortable. We've never talked about that incident to this day. Maybe I'll force an awkward phone call later!
