Oh my you aced this one with an E Kala - totally loved your witty take on the horrors of the lockdown. Your cooking endeavors have me in major envy as I couldnt manage to head that way at all. The heat and humidity have sucked me dry of any and every enthusiasm for any such hobbies.

Yup binge watching web series sounds familiar to me too but I have restrained of the online shopping mania; actually was never too much into it and now also not missing it at all.

I went out to a supernarket too and came back horrified. I was panicked and crazed at the thought of being infected - Phew not again in a long time, I should hope so!!

Wonder if the cloak of invisibility will help us to escape the virus or we just need the Mirror of erised to forsee our future from this virus scare ;-)

I was chuckling as I read this for this was me a few years back. I have totally lost the Diwali fervor over the past few years and now I just light a diya to commemorate it. I guess single living makes one reclusive about the festivals. Earlier I used to go home to spend it with my parents, but even that is out for me now.

I cant imagine how much effort you put into this-you really love your family and traditions a lot Kala. That bit came out so well in this post and I guess your kids will grow up learning about this as opposed to missing out on it. Passing our keep worthy traditions to the next gen can be such a motivator and I think you come up aces on that.

What a lovely story Kala about the joy of giving. Its tough on loads of people to be festive at such times and if we could all think of giving out things we have been hoarding to light up their homes, it would do so much good.

Very well written Kala - being an interior designer myself I can see the common sense in this approach. Its very beneficial for people looking to hire one and yes I have seen this dilemma in loads of peeps. People get taken in by fancy names and glitzy websites and then later cry when the goods are not delivered as promised. I have been seeing this a lot here in Gurgaon.

I am not very fond of ghee and would have been screaming at it being poured too liberally on my food. In Rajasthan, when you go for a traditional sit down meal which is served in a big thali, the ghee is a huge part of the meal. Bajre ki khichdi is a winter delicacy thats served often and powdered sugar or bhura is sprinkled in copious amounts and then ghee over it.

I love eating on a banana leaf and have enjoyed this at a couple of State bhawans where sadya/south indian meals are served. Loved reading about the whole custom of ghee making Kala - didnt know its the malai off curd thats used to make ghee. In my household here, its the malai off freshly boiled milk thats collected and then later boiled off to make ghee

Ugh! I am devoured alive by mosquitoes whenever I am in their range. I think I have sweet blood though my sisters is sweeter than mine. So she gets bitten more when its two of us together. But mostly when I am around, others get a respite as they make a beeline for my blood. And they spread the word around- so no respite at all after one sting :-(
