Bet a buck Roger was related to Jimmie somehow. Uncle Jimmie who died at Iwo Jima who was in the famous degenerate's book.

GV was really very sweet about him in Palimpsest, though. Called him the love of his life, and talked about being buried near him. Howard was an effing saint.

I had a very satisfactory (you know, to me) conversation with a near-stranger who was an Anna Anderson believer, after the whole thing was signed, sealed, delivered, post second Massie book. She was all, “There is still a lot of doubt, but plenty of people know she was the real princess,” and I was all, “NO. That Charlottesville lady was Franziska Schanzkowska, and TWO DNA tests proved it. Guard! Turn! Parry! Thrust! HaHA!”

Someone help me find my lipstick. A red that is brown. Not a bright red, not a brick red. A medium red that instead of having a pink or plum cast is brown-ish. Red, but brown red. Thank you.

AND, "He wore his own hair, as men used to do, instead of the ridiculous curled wigs that had become the fashion, and she saw at once how suited it was to him, how impossible it would be for him to wear it in any other way."

I am Coleridge.

I was dreaming that I was riding the horse I had when I was ten. First horse. The greatest horse love except maybe one you saw born or something. The horse who taught me about horses. And my little son was there, riding double in front of me, thrilled. Ultimate happiness. It was like, ecstasy.

The phone rang. My father had a newspaper clipping to fax me, but he’d sent it to the voice line. At 5:00am.

No but kind to horses! He invented a saddle to make cavalry horses backs not get as sore. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McClellan_saddle

Love That Thing You Do. One of two movies I walked out of and went across the street to Tower Records to buy the soundtrack.

The other was Grace of My Heart, but it wasn’t for sale because, Tower guy told me, Joni Mitchell had sued to stop them distributing it. Eventually it came out, and her song was on it, sung by the very good woman who did Ileana Douglas’s singing. Song JM wrote about her lost cat, repurposed in the movie to be about the suicide of Douglas’s husband, Matt Dillon playing Brian Wilson-ish guy.
