I definitely don't believe in soulmates. I've thought many times that I could have married and been happy with some of my ex-es. So many people forget that successful partnerships are about work -- hard work, compromise, and getting to know someone over years and years.

I just wrote my list today too and felt sort of unqualified because I was such a slacker reader this year. We've read a few in common, but I love getting new ideas!

Oh, I love this! Sounds like every hike I've ever been on with children. Right now my son is all about pine cones and acorns. I end up with all of my pockets stuffed with them.

Thank you so much for your even-handed, sensitive, and persuasive post. So much of the time -- when we're arguing for or against vaccination -- we lose sight of the fact that this is a global issue and our discussion should also be about our role as global citizens.

I'd wait until vacation is over too! Are you going to Buffalo for a wedding? We live right in the city.

I adored this! His devotion is so cute. (I think I also bought my son the Flat Stanley-ish doll! My son hates it.) When I was little, I adored my Cabbage Patch dolls. When I got my first one, my mother also bought -- without telling my dad -- another one for my brother. One of the bald boy ones. My dad was horrified and took the doll away from my brother and gave it to me. I still remember how my brother would "sneak" cuddles and kisses with his stolen doll. Of course, I was a mean big sister about it, and would gloat about "my dolls" to his face and changed the name on the birth certificate to make my brother sad. Siblings are cruel.

I loved Susan Cain's Quiet, but I can see what you mean by practical applications. It's almost more like an Introvert Manifesto or something. I second the Introvert Advantage. So many interesting suggestions!

It's a great life skill! My son's preschool starts swimming lessons every week starting in the fall. I'm looking forward to it! I am not a strong swimmer and I wish I had been learned more as a kid.

This is a terrific list! I think toddlers and preschoolers around the world can relate!
