My dog is my most essential home-office accessory. Just having him around makes me feel better about being at work.

Thanks for this. I wonder if part of the value of engagement is also simply association. In an age where all companies feel they must have a social media strategy to be relevant, is using Social Media a means to establishing more credibility? Do engagers gain something simply by asserting that they're part of the conversation, similar to how academics are required to publish in scholarly journals?

So many of my colleagues, and those in other industries, tell me that it's tough to find good writers. Thanks for articulating it so well.

Not only do these things help others read, but they also help me write. When I am working on a project or piece with a lot of dense information, especially one that must be translated to the reader in a simple way, these techniques always help me make the content more digestible.

Fun read. I'm a Times New Roman person and I've always suspected that preference reflected my tendency to play things safe. I've actually felt real guilt when reformatting other writers' documents in TNR. Somehow I knew I was zapping a bit of their personality in the process.

I work in magazine, and we always talk about magazines as "aspirational tools." Like it or not, magazines show us, not who we are, but who we can be. They show us a more self-realized, fitter, happier, thinner, richer, smarter (etc.) version of our selves. Joan, I like your thought that Pinterest occupies an aspirational space. That's certainly how I use it personally.

As a writer / editor, I've been struggling with a way to make Pinterest work for my business. I've gotten some great ideas after watching this video, including posting mood boards for stories I'm writing, to help readers get the "feel" of the piece.

Yes! Thanks for the catch. I wish I could use the excuse that I was just checking to see if anyone was paying attention. Proof that even editors need editors.

Thanks so much for this post. I offer bilboards as a juicy place to find all kinds of grammar, punctuation and general content mistakes. Looking for editing mistakes on billboards is also a great way for writing nerds to stay alert on a long drive.
