Sep. 20, 2017, is the date of original publication of this Johnstone article. The ICH byline shows Dec. 11. Yes, bylines and attribution matter--especially for content aggregation sites.

There's nothing inherently wrong with propaganda. Some is untruthful and for the benefit of a narrow few. Some is actually telling truth to power, in the interests of the many. Ask yourself, who is brainwashed?

What are your standards?

It's not a problem with every ICH posting, but I call it out when I see it (Feeley doesn't seem to care.) Aggregation without obvious, clear, accurate attribution is theft. Furthermore, it's important for ICH readers to be able to easily access original sources so they can review the biases, credibility, usefulness, etc. of that information source. BTW, not all the websites/authors/articles that ICH posts meet my standards.

Here are some highlights from the Climate Science Special Report (link at bottom) that the U.S. Global Change Research Program recently released. That program was initiated under the first president Bush.
--“Global mean atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration has now passed 400 ppm, a level that last occurred about 3 million years ago, when global average temperature and sea level were significantly higher than today.”
--“This report concludes that it is ‘extremely likely’ that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century.” [That’s not ‘virtually certain’ (99 percent) but is 95+ percent likely.]
--"Solar output changes and internal natural variability can only contribute marginally to the observed changes in climate over the last century, and there is no convincing evidence for natural cycles in the observational record that could explain the observed changes in climate."
--“Since 1980, the cost of extreme events for the United States has…”[averaged $46 billion per year]. [In 2017 alone, hurricanes alone caused over $200 billion in damages.]
--Sea level increased 3 inches in the last generation and will rise more than that in the next generation, with continued acceleration in subsequent generations.
--"...much evidence is found for a human influence on surface soil moisture deficits due to increased evapotranspiration [the combination of soil moisture loss from evaporation and plant respiration] caused by higher temperatures.” [The Texas state climatologist confirmed to me that the data show primarily increased minimum daily lows, particularly in the warm season, in both rural and urban areas.]
--"Under higher scenarios, [i.e., “a future with continued high emissions growth”] and assuming no change to current water resources management, chronic, long-duration hydrological drought is increasingly possible by the end of this century." [And, "chronic, long-duration" could mean decades-long mega-drought here on the border of the Southern High Plains and the Chihuahuan Desert during the second half of the century.]
--“…future changes outside [meaning “worse than”] the range projected by climate models cannot be ruled out.” https://science2017.globalchange.gov/chapter/exec...

Guy McPherson (U of AZ prof emeritus) says days or weeks, not months or years. But actually, most science coverage is discussing tipping points, etc., being decades away.

"The Democrats are not seeking to rally popular opposition to a brazen tax giveaway to the super-rich. Rather, they are appealing to the Republicans to let them participate in the grubby legislative horse-trading." http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2017/12/02/pers-d...

The Democratic Party, liberals, and even the label "progressive" are worse than useless.

Privatization of social security is no longer a non-starter as it was under Bush the Second's first term. Now there is no "third rail" in U.S. national politics.

The Top 20%--the buffer for the 0.01%--are unconcerned with the imminent shredding of the social safety net to pre-Johnson (War on Poverty) levels. Moreover, they are happy to ride whatever bubble Wall Street and its militarist guarantors care to blow.
