Whats family allowance? Thought it was a name for when working tax credit and child tax credit came in one payment

Our three usually get larger gift from us and a smaller one(Usually no more than £50 per child total). That doesn't include the chocky box from us and the one or two they'll get from family. One Christmas Morning they open the gifts form us, then later on we visited their Nana so they can open gifts from the family... which is usually clothing and bits (like hair bobbles and jewellery). This year there's 3 of them and they're all older (9, 7 and 4) so we may spend a little more... especially as we're 100% debt free this year... so its kind of special.
I'm 50/50 about second hand... some things are just better brand new... others are just a silly expense new. DVDs, when we get them, are fine second hand... as are books for little children... as they inevitably get drawn on or ripped (I reuse those as gift tags, wall art and cards).
I'm definitely NOT a fan of electronic stuff for kids. There are some things in life they'll just have to grow up and buy for themselves, they all grow up too fast now a days.

Lol I tried that with the kids ages ago... but my older 2 (9 and 7) just get embarrassed... the little one (4yrs) however, you can get to shout anything... which, sadly, it fun when you're in a looooong line at the post office on a rainy day.

I miss the old fashioned kids parties... the ones with a nice frock, some over coloured birthday cake and some daft party games. Made life simpler, less expensive and all the kids could participate. BRING BACK PASS THE PARCEL AND MUSICAL CHAIRS!

MrC sold his limited edition doc martins on EBAY recently, made a nice bit of £££ which was recycled into some new wardrobe items. We also sell our old DVDs, CDs, Games and Books on Play.com (you set your own price) .... which is better than allot of the online places that claim to give you the best price. We've made just over £90 selling my old limited edition SIMS 1& 2 games (was a collector in college). Thats a nice addtion to next years holiday fund :D
Goes to show every bit counts :D Also show one mans tat ... etc etc

Weird that climb a tree isnt on there.... I remember the tree my friends and I used to climb as kids. It became everything from a tree house to a rocket ship.... we used to climb up 20 feet plus into the top branches and fly home made kites from the top.
Kids dont get memories like that any more... every experience has to be jacked into an electric socket now a days.
Master N isnt too keen on this sort of fun but the girls will love it... definately going to have to give the list a go.... not sure what to tie the rope swing onto yet, but will work on it STAND STILL MR C, I NEED TO BORROW YOUR PERSON :P lol

Our xtras fund comes from all sorts of places...
I went through our old dvd/ games cd box recently and found oodles of old games we dont use (i was an avid collector of sims games as a teen).... i put them on play.com which, is where i originally bought them. all 26 games should get us £150+. A healthy addition to the fund.
We put £££ into an online saver every week towards the bills.... everything except the TV channels/ phone calls is a set amount.... on the 31st of the month we send the money over to the main account. Whats left on the 3rd after all the bills have come out goes to the xtra fund. This March that should give us £60.
We also do the usual pennies bottle, tescos club card points (we dont shop at tesco but MrC shops for his mam there), and pay a little extra into our water bill... which at the end of the year (decemberish time) the region of £70.
Even with the money theres very little to do in the area... have to be more creative... but then again thats half the fun :D

Dont fear for mince mush... a little tomato puree or tin chopped tomatoes and some quick cook spagetti and theres a spag bol lol... wonder if that counts as upcycling :P
