Great post! I am so glad I found your blog! I'm a new author myself--indie author--and recently released my first book. I loved how open and honest you are. It's hard to look at social media and not think about the fact that my book isn't number one on amazon. But I write because I can't not write, like you said. If I sell ten copies, great, if I sell a thousand, great. I don't look at it as sales and money, I look at it as how many people will be inspired by my book. I write to inspire and that's it! I don't write for money or fame. Anyway, very good post!
I am finding I do that more and more. I feel stupid too because I'm not a published author yet and the books i read--well--obviously they're published. I think they know a little more than I do, yet i still find myself editing, correcting things, even though I'm still learning (the learning will never stop). Its quite annoying and I can't sit and read like I used to. Like for example I used to love the author Karen Kingsbury (Christian fiction author) but now her writing seems dull to me. She uses a lot of she felt, he felt, and it drives me up the wall. Plus when I read books in my genre I get ideas and have to stop and go write. Pretty irritating.
Oh my gosh I LOVE your cover!! That is so pretty!!!
See I tend to revise as I go. If i don't like how the story is going I will fix it right then and a week ago I just started completely over after writing one hundred and forty pages (single spaced) I might add. But the new direction is going great! And to answer your question, no I don't hate my MS. I find revising to be fun (weird I know) and I love the process of making the story better. I re-wrote my first novel (novel that I'm hoping to get published) eight times before I felt it had the right feel. I'm still in the editing stages and I can honestly say that I still adore my MS. I'm probably the odd ball out there but that's okay.
I think Crit partners are amazing! I have one crit partner right now and she's great at catching the little details I tend to miss when I'm writing, like on one page my character could be wearing a pink shirt and two pages later the shirt is blue, things like that. She's also good at asking questions like why did A do this or why did B do this? it really helps me stay focused and clean up the story.
Oh gosh I LOVE this story!!!!!!! It's been so long since I read it I don't remember the old beginning but this new one is GREAT!!! This is my favorite story of yours!
I write best in mid-morning after I've woken up my brain. And I HATE writing long hand so I use my phone for ideas. I have a full keyboard so I will text ideas to myself or even write a scene down and save it in drafts on my phone and type it up later. It works great, especially when I have a scene that i JUST have to get down!
