yeah, zero reference to systemic stuff. it seemed like an intentional plea for empathy to so fully keep his back stuck to the wall of the personal rather than the political/structural in that narrative

my research at the moment is about what the PIC means for white feminists' potential to map a masculinity that makes room for gender justice, and one of the things i've been trying to sit with is whether whiteness can be undone from the inside - in which case white people are necessary/useful, and white feminism might still have something to add outside of apologizing and then being Black anti-racist activists' coffee interns - or whether this whole goldberg race-as-civic-religion thing supersedes any and all coalitional contributions, in which case, ????armed revolution????

to me one of the central barriers to coalition building is how off-putting it is for white ladies with opinions to be told to sit down - we have just enough of a claim to marginality that we ffffiercely defend our right to be incredibly strident. dqing those women from anti-racism doesn't feel like an intelligent use of resources, though. i dunno i dunno i dunno

i don't think it's communication BETWEEN WHITES that she's claiming is problematic; we talk about men policing themselves all the time as a strategy against gender violence, right? it's when a white person with a lot of power and privilege stands up on a platform for everyone, taking a whole lot of space that could/should be occupied by a PoC, and says "this is how my white experience is affected by x y and z, so that's why and how racism needs to change"

how do we go about undoing that dialectic without insisting that white progress becomes one of the objectives of a movement meant to foster the well-being of black people?
