Way to go out with a bang, Toast. This is awesome.
Yes- that's awful. It's terrible to think about the happiness of so many of her books compared to the reality of her life. I've been meaning to read LM Montgomery's journals, which I've read parts of before, and in what I remember reading she said, essentially, that she never loved her husband and only married him because she wanted children and wasn't sure she'd get another chance. Mr. Meredith is supposedly based on her husband.
I hate that he's-mean-to-you-because-he-likes-you trope, but Gilbert is my one exception to the rule. He was a jerk to her that one time, but he more than makes up for it with all his subsequent actions.
Ugh, where's my long line of respectable suitors? I want those instead of tonight's OKCupid date that I'm not remotely looking forward to. And where the hell is my Gilbert Blythe?
I do love all the gossip about townspeople that pervades her books, especially in the later Anne books. They always seem to be judging people by their housekeeping or some weird story about a relative.
Wow, I remember that episode "Revelations" and I was similarly moved by it. From a fellow X-Phile, thank you for this lovely piece.
She'd be Eliza, right? I bet she'd do an awesome rendition of "Burn."
If I could steal anyone's voice Little Mermaid- style, it would probably be her.
I LOVED THIS SHOW. Why are there not shows like this for kids anymore? I have the first season on DVD and it holds up. Although one thing I noticed upon rewatch: the police really suck. They let people waltz in and mess up their crime scene and I have no idea how the kids solved some of these crimes before they did, even with Ghostwriter.
Rob from Ghostwriter was my first crush, ever. And what the hell did happen to Craig?
They do seem to be in love. I just find Cosette kind of boring and Marius a clueless douche (hello, Eponine? Way cooler than Cosette and already your friend). But I agree, they'll stay together- I mean, they have to. Everyone else they know is dead.
The one good thing I'll say about LND is that I do really like the song "Til I Hear You Sing." I love Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess is pretty great, too. I'm glad both of them emerged from LND with their careers intact.
I once saw someone pose the question, "Why do you think Christine chooses Raoul over the Phantom?" Uh...because Raoul is nice and normal and handsome and loves her and the Phantom is a murderous, controlling creep in a mask whose one redeeming quality is that he's a good singing teacher?
