Oh, it happens in government.

I laughed when I started reading this, but my laughter quickly turned to tears.

I worked with my provincial government, on contract, for 5 years. One day my manager told me that due to budget stuff, they weren't able to renew my contract again. So I started looking for a permanent job in the government and found a perfect one in another ministry, doing pretty much same thing I had been doing for the last 3 years. I even had insider knowledge on one of the big projects they were about to take on, since I had been involved in the planning of it. So I applied for the job, and a few weeks later, got invited to an interview. I had to prepare a presentation, answer questions from 3 different managers and write a written test. I thought it went well.

A week goes by, nothing. A second week, nothing. I email the admin assistant who had set up the interview, no response. I call them, they tell me they'll get back to me later. I never heard anything from the hiring manager. I know that only 2, maybe 3 candidates were interviewed. Is it so difficult to send a bloody email? Later on I heard through the grapevine that the person who had been doing the job on contract was given the full-time position. Why even have interviews (yeah, it's a government, thing, but still... rage!)
