God blessed me so far with 7 children. Our oldest was called home almost 16 years ago, when she was 2 years old. God blessed us with 4 sons and 2 daughters since he called her home. When our almost 15 year old was born I went back to work at a bank for 4 months, when he was 2 months old. I enjoyed my job, but was miserable. My husband deployed August 2001,three weeks later told me to quit, I put in my 2 week notice September 10, then September 11 happened. I have never regretted that choice or doubted God's calling on my life. The days can be long, but years are so short. My oldest went to public school for the first time this year. I miss him so much during the week. I truly believe Homeschooling is what is best for children.
Being a mother is a gift, staying home caring for my children, husband, and home is my calling from God.

Yes!!! My 8 year old daughter wants to be a momma and homeschool her kids (while living in Hawaii, going to the beach daily lol...I told her we'd need an in-law suite in her house!) She also wants to be a doctor, but being a wife and mom is more important to her. I pray her heart stays focused on the Lord.

We are still renting with the goal of being home owners in the next year. The Lord has blessed us with 7 children so far and if it was between renting or owning a smaller home and continuing to trust the Lord with our family size, well we'll keep renting or having a smaller home. What I have found is that during my husband's military career (now retired) and not such a great paying job since retiring, God has provided every step of the way. There have been multiple times when I truly had no idea how things would happen, where the food would come from, because of an unexpected bill, yet there was the food. The Lord will provide when we TRUST HIM!

Agree, C Volkmann. I'm so glad we didn't have Skype or FB when my husband deployed, although mypsace was in existance and yahoo messenger, but we never chatted through myspace and rarely did the video messenger, because it was so delayed and froze constantly. I also refused to talk through the MWR phones, because getting every 5 words was far more torment than actually having him pay with his phone card to call me, every couple of weeks.
Hand written letters and cards were better in general and even emails (I'd print them off).
My grandma talked about her brother being in Korea and during his over 2 years there, they got 1-5 minute call. We're all quite spoiled anyone who's had a spouse deployed from 2003 on, when it comes to communication. Now those deployed often have their own cell phones with them, crazy to me!
I also don't miss a single thing about active duty and so glad he's retired!! :)

I just never waited by the phone, worried about the cell phone, we just lived our life, and knew as long as there wasn't a knock on the door, things were okay! Even when the weeks passed with no contact!

Try reading her book, Faith Deployed and her 2nd one by the same title but with a "2" behind it. Her writing is beautiful and right on spot.

No you do not know what we feel like and I'm sick and tired of non-military wives saying you have a clue. You know what it's like to have your husband gone for long periods of time, yes, you do NOT know what it's like to have your husband in a war zone and praying he's not shot at, that he's not severely injured, or worse killed. So do NOT say you know what it's like.

If you miss him as much when he's off on a weekend as you do when he's deployed, you need to get a freaking grip.

Well then, Niki, write your own. This woman has written MANY successful books for military spouses, so since you can obviously do it so much better, have at it honey. In the meantime, shut up already.

It's obvious that you're a judgmental mess. You think you are the only person that doesn't eat processed foods, yet your grocery bill is outrageous for 3 of you. Not only do you go on here wagging your finger, you actually think you know what people eat. Shut up...from one seasoned spouse to another, you're coming off as a know it all who no one can stand to be around, because you spend your whole time at FRG meetings looking down at the young spouses. You don't offer advice, you offer judgment and disdain.
If you are the spouse of 30 plus years, then you also know good and well that the money that's being put into the Commissaries will NOT go towards the soldiers for bullets and weapons and training. You're either nothing but a liar or delusional.
