Wowser - $300 just to replace the racks. That's crazy!!

Personally, I didn't leave the house (other than to go to the gym) and my total sum spent was a whopping £0. Buy nothing day convert right here!! :)

Its a very interesting debate, but for me home ownership comes out on top from a financial standpoint, but carries two VERY important caveats:

1) There is a very small chance that you will move house in the next 5-8 years.
2) You are financially ready. If you lost your job and owning a home would financially cripple you in 12 months, then the risk of foreclosure would be too high and renting would be a better option.

I think it is the same in the US, but in the UK there is a great desire for young people to "get on the property ladder". This is an objective completely irrespective of the two points above, which can make it a very dangerous endeavour financially.

Really interesting post Kathleen - I didn't actually know the story of JD Roth and the site - very interesting stuff. I always wish everyone all the success that comes their way - 99% of the time, they have thoroughly deserved it!

Awesome - it sounds like a good split. I would love to read more about the financial aspect of the new site on this site if possible. Does that make sense? :)

My feet are slightly cold and I don't have any warm slippers. I'll have to put on a nice, comfy pair of socks!

Its Sunday - I have to go to work tomorrow!

I need to tidy up our apartment, because there is too much mess (ie I have things to make a mess)!!

Now that you have some experience in real estate, it could be sensible to reinvest here (depending on your other existing investments and net wealth regarding diversification).

Thanks for the links. I've already read most, but good to see the ones I've missed.

Just out of interest, is the "X number of ways to Y" a format which you think readers prefer or is it aimed at improving search engine results?
