Great review, Cass. The YA world is so crowded at the moment I rely on bloggers like you to spot the diamonds in the rough. This one sounds like it fits the bill. I dig the whole alternate Russia setting. I've been to Moscow and felt the architecture there was so beautiful and evocative it was only a matter of time till some enterprising storyteller turned it to their advantage. The mythology sounds really fresh too (though I weary of 'chosen one' storylines). I'll check it out.

Hey Melissa,
I'm not familiar with the Dominic Grey series, but it sounds pretty cool. Love seeing the occult mixed in with my adventure stories. Plus, I've always felt 'mummies' were an untapped paranormal resource.

Cheers - I have a 10 year-old nephew who likes fantasy so I might pick it up for him.

Sounds great Melissa – just curious what age group is the book aimed at? Is it YA or early teens?

True - it is a beautiful cover, but the story also sounds quite rich. I'm all for books that attempt to navigate the tricky territory of sexual politics. Thanks for the review!

I need to watch this show! It looks like a work of twisted genius.

I think all supernatural books benefit from the presence of cats. There's something just so eerily intelligent about their eyes. Like they know something you don't.

What a fascinating article! I've always considered myself time poor - maybe I'm energy poor?
Thanks for the post!
