Ohgodohgod so much of this is exactly me! And I've never told anybody and I do the running thing and I've definitely been frustrated with real life having fewer highs and lows than my daydreams. I am freaking out a little bit that other people have experienced it and that it's a recognized psychological phenomenon.

I think it is maladaptive for me. Right now I'm unemployed, and I kind of look forward to my partner and housemates leaving in the morning, so I can queue up the fantasy. I'm dealing with a lot of shame and paralysis around some past choices, so I keep obsessively daydreaming that I'm someone else, in a totally different place and set of circumstances. Maybe I should talk about this in therapy, now that I know it's not my own personal hideously embarrassing weirdness that must be kept secret forever.

True, but even here, the bus is very class-based. They put a fantastically expensive streetcar system in on a route that had perfectly good bus coverage, because you can't expect tourists/gentrifiers to ride the BUS. With the POORS.
