I have not done any business negotiations but have often negotiated for better rates for my blog articles. I usually do this by telling them about the benefits from linking to my blog and often agree to meet half way. When negotiating with anyone, I like to think that both parties have gained something.
I love curries so I know that this curry will be tasty. I have never cooked Onion Squash and not sure if it's available at the moment. Could I substitute for butternut Squash?
Catarina - You make lots of good points. It's good to do a lot of research about the culture and the country before visiting the country. Doing business in China isn't easy but with the right partners who know the culture, it makes it easier. Doing business in a lot of the Asian countries requires patience. The creation of friendship and being accepted into their circle takes time too.
So many points you make here are shared by the organisation I work for where our main role is to help local companies become international. We hold workshops where experts from the relevant sector or country can brief exporters on what is required. We introduce them to translators, sector specialist, market specialist to help them along. We also organise Trade Missions to relevant countries. On the Trade Mission we will introduce them to several partners where they have one to one meetings and hopefully some business gets done once they have got to trust each other. It's a long process in some cases but when they do start selling abroad, there is no stopping them
A very happy birthday to your son.
So did you make it on the cover of the magazine? Or did you write an article? Or Are you getting married soon?
Being a leader can't be an easy job where you are expected to be honest and tell the truth whilst the people working for you may be hiding information from you. A good leader is one who listens to everyone point of view but makes up his own mind.
I agree with you that companies need to continuously innovate and change with the times. That's why some small businesses find it hard to keep up and go out of business e.g. Every company is now expected to have a website and email address. Gone are the days of looking them up in the telephone book or newspapers.
There are hugh opportunities in Nigeria and other African Countries. I know that the Chinese and Indians are already trading with lots of the African countries but here in UK - most businesses are encouraged to look at USA, China, Brazil and sometimes India. A lot of trade advisers shy away from recommending the African countries as they think these countries are difficult markets. They are loosing out on the opportunity. The middle class in these countries are now earning good money and have the spending power to buy foreign luxury goods. I hope some of these businesses will visit Africa and seeing for themselves the opportunities they are missing.
There are lots of problems all of have to cope with today but inequality seems to be a major one. It worries me that the younger generation will have it even tougher than us in spite of them being educated and with professional careers. I really don't know how this problem can be sorted.
