Why does everyone seem to be forgetting that Alan Turing was gay and that Stephen Hawking suffers from a major disability? Are race and gender the only axes of oppression?

Also, I do feel obligated to point out that the modern LDS church does not endorse plural marriage. It has zillions of failings, and things like its founding in that practice and (very recent) racism ought not to be forgotten, but they do, at least, reject the rogues who've gone off to do their own polygamy colonies.

Yes, people do stupid stuff in high school. But respectable people apologize for it and talk about how they learned their lesson.

Also, color me unsurprised about this, given how horribly he treated his dog.

Actually, it hasn't. You're confusing the religious rite of holy matrimony with the state of civil marriage, which is and always has been about legal responsibilities and property rights.

The state's interest in marriage is entirely about enforcement of the marriage license contract, which is basically just adults promising to be legally and financially responsible to each other until/unless they dissolve that contract. Nothing about that kind of a contract requires a particular variety of gonads involved.

Why d'you folks always obsess over the bums*x part? And if that's your only objection, then why not allow lesbian marriage? (Not that lesbians can't go there, mind.)

Also, would you like to jail every straight couple who's gone down that road (so to speak)? Because you'd be jailing a LOT of people.
