Other Big Ten students are just as crude and disrespectful as Wisconsin fans are made out to be. I know from first hand experience. Last season at Michigan State, we had a ton of stuff thrown at us including: at least $2 in small change, a soaking wet foam Spartan helmet and various other garbage. With every first down, MSU students loudly yell "1,2,3. First down BITCH!" At Iowa, we received various threats and ribbings before the game and during the game had a full bottle of dip spit thrown at us; fortunately, this student was a terrible throw because he hit a fellow Hawkeye, but still.

Our students are miserable when it comes to "Rolling Out the Red Carpet" for our opponents, but this isn't an accurate approximation of our entire fan base. No students should be expected to be openly accepting of opponents and mild hostility should be expected. But saying that our fans as a whole are the worst in the Big Ten is ridiculous. The true reflection of a fan base is in its alumni, those who have grown out of the childish chants. In this area, we are equals to other schools.

To give credit where it is due, the original team was more than the fab five that we were. We helped drive the change, but the efforts of about a dozen others contributed greatly. In some cases the efforts were mostly manpower but their efforts were surely irreplaceable.
