Oh bless! I recall my first residential trip at school and how much I got out of it personally. Mind you one of my teems once got asked to go on a school trip skiing in America - and the cost? 3k ! And that was just a normal secondary school not even a posh one!

You are so right, knowing the monthly budget is key! We do a weekly budget and take out the money for each week in cash so we can SEE when it's being spent quickly - no popping the odd thing on the bank card. Works wonders and helped us save up for a house extension in under a year!

I check the use by dates religiously I must admit, having one had such bad food poisoning that I had a weeks spell in hospital - it's made me rather over-cautious!

What a great selection of advice Cass. I find that if I explain to Kitty and Ozzy when I am feeling tired / ill / tetchy that I'm not feeling very good that they modify their behaviour and in turn everyone is happier - honesty helps!
