This just reinforces to me that Zahn's trilogy was awesome and then it was almost all downhill from there...(Okay, the X-Wing books were pretty good.) And while I had major issues with JAT, the scary part is it wasn't the worst. I mean, I've honesty repressed reading Crystal Star. I know that I DID, but I can't remember a thing about it. I suspect I'm probably better off for it.

You have to admit, it's a step up from the Old Republic Jedi system, which was "You only mass-murdered a village full Sand People today, after having kissy time with the Senator your'e supposed to be guarding, then followed all this up by taking her off practically into the laps of the people trying to kill her after your Master expressly told you not to? Well...well done there. You must have gotten up very early in the morning."

Actually, I would bet the real answer is "It makes it easier to hide the fight and stunt doubles." I remember reading when the show was on especially towards the end of the show SMG got thin enough (by 'normal-people' standards; by Hollywood standards she was normal) they had to change stunt doubles and were still having a hard time making it not obvious because the stunt performers couldn't be that thin. Bulky clothes would hide it better.
