My old neighborhood had a crew of raccoons we used to call "the Gang of Four," and they'd ooze out of the storm drain, one by one, then assemble, four abreast, and march down the sidewalk like a shock troop. It was amazing and terrifying to behold.

BRB, searching YouTube for the sequence in which A.D. Miles and Bobby Cannavale spend Sunday mornings hanging out naked and listening to Roberta Flack.

I recently ordered the largest taco-spices size they had, and when it came, I was magically soothed. No lie.

I get you.

I'm an ex-Catholic slouching toward secular humanism, but my daughter and I go to a very hippie UCC church because the community is wonderful, because I like having an hour every week where I can re-articulate my core values and get in some meditation, where my daughter can see examples of people living out values I'm trying to teach like "We are grateful for what we have" and "We who have privilege check it, because we believe everyone is innately equal" and "Help those who need it."

I am a big believer in the power of local communities that exist to help you define and affirm the better impulses in your nature. Churches are great for that, even if you end up mouthing along to the Our Father or whatever.

There is an excerpt on the Amazon site and it is delightful. On attempting sex with Leo DiCaprio:

"I looked at Leo’s perfect face as he grimaced, hoping to make it past the two-minute mark. He was a unicorn. Rare, innocent, and horny. Me, on the other hand, I’d been engaged, married, and had given birth. I needed a man, not a man-child."

I still describe leaving the Catholic church as "the worst breakup I ever endured." This piece really spoke to my experience.

I am fairly open about my Team Amy leanings. Her only flaw was her terrible taste in men, because Nick? Come on. But the woman had focus, mad planning skills, the ability to improvise and the ability to use her anger as her servant, not be a servant to her anger.

I like to think that she has the baby, realizes she doesn't have the energy to deal with keeping Nick on his leash while also raising a child, then engineers a way for him to "leave" while she's "struggling with PPD." She manages to ruin him in the media for once and for all, get him declared legally dead, then rock it as a single mom who reinvents herself as a lifestyle brand devoted to helping women "write a new story when the old one gets too dark."

I was fine until I got to the part about boycotting the gas station coffee, because apparently in my head, Chris Pine is basically the character he played in WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER FIRST DAY OF CAMP.
