If only I could fit in boys clothes. I'm a gnc human who generally wears men's clothes but built to make my Scottish ancestors proud--men's gear is frequently too big (I'm looking at you, boxy REI clothes!) and it is a struggle to find any "women's" gear that doesn't have a butterflies and flowers. Patagonia carries extra small men's gear and has been my go-to outdoorsing brand.

Related: I went to a columbia store a couple weeks ago: I found a single mountain hardware jacket in navy that fit me. There was another raincoat I looked at that came in taupe, pink, pastel teal AND had only two extra-small versions of it in a dark blue. I think perhaps the market was telling them something, there.

I FEEL SO CONFLICTED. But also this takes all the amazingly creepy parts of the original (Oh-ho-ho, young wife, I'm setting you up to fail to justify the anger I've already decided you will incur so I can murder you like all the others; also, the weird thing with the blood-stained egg in some versions) and turns them on their head in a way that is in certain respects at least as unsettling as the original because it throws the original into such stark contrast. #beforecoffeerunonsentences

That is such a fantastic line to pull from this. I just got back from a week with my partner's loving but discomfited mother who did that exactly when struggling with the new name.

Portland: a city not built around the idea that temperatures over 90 degrees Fahrenheit are a thing that happens with enough regularity to bother with central air. Seriously: few residential buildings (eg anything not built in the last 20 years) have central air, and few enough have effective central heat. My 3 year-old catometer was melted into a puddle most days this summer.

Dude was a prick. I'm a daily enthusiastic bike rider, and dude was out of line. Track stands are rad and all, but not good for life in traffic. Also, when you're in walking/shared facilities, you yield to the more vulnerable road user (e.g. when I pop up on the sidewalk to pedal to my office's parking facility, I yield to people walking, because I am, at least in these circumstances, not a total jackass).

I remember being a kid (11, maybe?) and having a teacher tell my class the same thing--if the world is that hostile to girls, why don't they teach girls self defense? Why don't we do everything other than tell little girls to just lie back and take it?
