When I saw the Mountain Goats last year, it was also an absurdly tiny venue. Like, a dive bar with smaller square footage than my small house. So small that I got to hold the door for John Darnielle when they walked out into the alley since there is no backstage. I'm still in kind of awe.

Still Buffering is absolutely delightful, although I feel bad about how much better at humaning Rileigh seems to be than I am, at more than twice her age.

I'm in capitol city, SC, and would be happy to share my experience.

I love it here, but there are upsides and downsides. The worst things are that local politics are...very much what you might expect from the news. There are, however, tons of progressive people working on that, but we're still in SC. My folks live near Knoxville, and so I imagine you've probably experienced similar.

Cola is a good college town on it's way to being a great one. New arts groups popping up, slowly getting interesting restaurants, growing local music. And Atlanta, the beach, the mountains are all close by.

The Greenville/Spartanburg area is also growing quickly into a fun, quirky area.

I personally love to visit Charleston, but could not live there; there's a lot of old wealth and class grossness that I experienced when I did, but that's just an anecdote worth the paper I wrote it on. ;)

This is exactly how I felt when a friend applied for a municipal judgeship. Like, how can a peer of mine be a judge?!

I absolutely count audiobooks as reading. When my husband and I read aloud to each other, I count that, too! The important thing is consuming something you enjoy or that is helpful, meaningful, fun, whatever, not the medium.

Not having seen this movie (and lacking critical thinking skills today, apparently), I thought you were trying to tell me there was a scene with ravens and bananas pecking a woman. Actual, literal bananas.

Wow. I hope you are not one of the people who dated my brother-in-law, because this sounds frighteningly like him.

Glad you got out of that. That is horrifying.
