I love my crit partners! I feel very lucky to have found them, especially since I've heard a lot of sad stories about friendships ending over poorly received/delivered crits.
And, yes, knowing goals/objectives/expectations going in will definitely help ensure all parties get what they want out of the relationship!

I think of it as this: if it's something that *I* would pick out as I'm walking into a room (or whatever location), then the description is useful because it reveals characterization, among other things. I can't speak for everyone else, but I know that I'm always conscious of specific things and couldn't care less about others, same goes with my husband/friends/family. We all pick out different things, and I use that when I write through different characters' perspectives.
And, you're right, it should be subtle, because these details aren't really anything *I'm* conscious of all the time.

I really enjoy the "Imagine" piece. I have always loved that word and I like her expression-->like a solemn expectation!
Also, I agree with Deb and Lali: I love the custom identity portrait as well! So much movement and flow, it reminds me of the ocean ^_^
PS: the quote? Beauty and the Beast...Now I'm singing it in my head ;)
