My favorite website, and a wonderful community! :(

I have to thank you, though, for doing such a great job of making yourselves real to us, your readers, so that whenever I feel sad about this, I can focus on how it's a good thing for you, people I care about, and not make it All About Me.

I wonder if there's a way to let the community live on without all the work...

...mostly strikes out from fear -- unfortunately, fear is one of the main contributors to fascist movements. I like your point about Tom, though.

Am I terrible? As much as I love Mr. Bates, I laughed aloud to learn that he died in "mysterious circumstances."

Thank you for giving Edith and Marigold such a wonderful future, and for being so true to Mary's character and Branson's potential.

Ha, yes... something tells me Isobel would have an opinion as well.

I like to picture George, Earl of Grantham, still alive today, up there in his stately home, although he would be 95ish.

(I can easily imagine Marigold still with us as a very elderly lady, having lived a fascinating life. I'm convinced that having had enough of secrets, Edith would have told her the whole truth at some appropriate time, and that Marigold would have grown up well loved and probably even well educated, with a mother in the literary world and ample resources.)

Thanks for using my question! I've got another... does anyone know about the British survival rates for World War II?

The first World War was absolutely brutal on the male population of Britain. But how about the second? I may be too influenced by last summer's reading of the Jill Paton Walsh continuation of the Wimsey books, but I'm worried about Master George. Would he have been likely to survive World War II? Would his aristocratic status have kept him on the sidelines unless he insisted on enlisting? If he had gone off to war, what were the odds on his survival?

You make a good point! That's just what I would have done, if it had been me.
