This sounds interesting, partially because I will watch anything with Ewan McGregor in it. But I'm def bothered sometimes when movies don't bother to explain how some strange phenomena came about.

My sister loves this book, but I've never read it because I didn't like the movie.

Some people do take issue with the depiction of slavery (particularly Mammy) in Gone With the Wind - it's a very rosy picture of the South during this time.
