My kids, a rising 6th grader and a rising 4th grader, have both read more than a couple of books on the list! In fact there are some favorites. JK Rowling taught my 11 year old to truly LOVE reading through Harry Potter. I think he's read each book at least 3 times. What a shame it would be for future generations of kids not to experience that. I was surprised at some of the ones on the list. We don't ban books here. Some may be a "lets wait til you are a little older" because of content but they won't be told they can no read something. Thanks for posting. Very thought provoking!

Great advice! Preteens and young teens are such a tough crowd in so many ways. They aren't interested in the stuff they think is for "little kids" (even if it is far from little kid age!) but much of what is out there is quite mature for them. Stumbled you back!

Thanks so much for sharing your story. It's always encouraging for those of us looking for answers. My middle son is one where my Mommy instincts (and my background with special needs kids) says something is slightly "off" here yet nothing is showing up on testing. While there is relief that some of the "big" things they tested for were negative, there is also the feeling of if something had been positive, at least we would know what we were dealing with. I stumbled your post. Mine is linked.

Great info! I was just telling my husband I needed to start our youngest working on pre-reading. I give it a thumbs up.
