This article by Michaela Angela Davis touches on some of the troublesome realities of black mothers. It was with these things in mind that I critique the portrayal of Jaxon's mother. http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/20/opinion/davis-micha...

No. South Africa is a country on the southern tip of the African continent. New Zealand is a country made of two major islands in the Pacific, to the southeast of Australia.

Ditto. Even if Michael can claim ignorance, all Haitians know what happens to kidnapped women.

I can forgive much of Michael's behavior for exactly those reasons (and because his parents told him off which pleased me). But their fight after their first trip to Haiti solidified my biggest relationship fear. He dismisses and belittles a major part of who Miri is and while she can forgive him, I would never.

This is a great comment filled with a lot of layers. First I like the mention of self-publishing because as many note (check this article from PBS http://www.pbs.org/mediashift/2014/06/self-publis... ) many marginalized groups choose to self-publish when traditional publishing avenues fail.
However I also like the mention of the need for editing which, to me, is part of the larger problem of lack of knowledge about book production, marketing and distribution.
What tools and resources do writers who choose to self-publish need to in order to produce, market and distribute the work most effectively?
