I'm just returning to this post now (and seeing your reply!) remembering that I wanted to check out your history recommendations. I think my attitude towards Canadian history is tainted by my public school exposure to it -- I am loving world history, but I had absolutely no exposure to it during my school years.

Sounds like a great year!
We read (well, listened to) Understood Betsy this year during car rides and i absolutely loved it!

I had trouble implementing Drawing With Children after completing the guided drawing lessons in the book -- and we love Art for Kids Hub for that reason. We recently tried out ArtAchieve which has a similar guided drawing format and love it. Less "characters" and more cultural type art projects. I'm really picky about how we use technology in our homeschool and family but for audiobooks & art instruction I'm sold!

One thing that always overwhelmed me about Ambleside Online was the separate booklists for each grade, especially with non-readers. I much prefer to the same read alouds and history lessons, etc. with as many of my kids as possible!

I wasn't a fan of the Burgess Bird Book either.

Breaking up "morning time" is a big help around here too! I find that changing the location from one room to another and adding beverages does a world of good in renewing everyones interest :)

As for a cleaning routine, I'd really like it if someone would routinely show up and clean my house for me ;)

I wasn't impressed with Mary Poppins either, though my girls adored it. If you don't like it, make sure you don't read the subsequent books in the series . . . more of the same! I love the movie though!

Good for you, going outside with all the kids (including the toddler!)... I usually send mine out without me LOL!

The only narrating I have done personally has been example narrations for my daughter to give her examples of what I expect of her. I have however, found it immensely helpful to be part of an online book group that discusses books. I have been retaining so much more since I began taking notes while reading and then participating in "conversations" about what I am reading.

I find this idea intriguing!

My kids love audiobooks! We spend a lot of time in the car, so it's a great way to redeem the time :)

I have been wanting to make a timeline for over 2 years now -- but the thought of getting it started is just so daunting to me! I should just jump in and do it, and not worry about how it will turn out. I love that Laura Ingalls Wilder made was added from the start :) My oldest is always asking "Is that before Laura Ingalls time?".
