I will admit, I do not read much non-fiction these days. Maybe I burned out on it, having to read it for so many years for school/work, but when I read the things you like about it, I can also say I find a lot of that in the fiction I read. I read contemporary fiction almost exclusively, and a lot of it would fall under realistic fiction. I have learned a lot about many things, and with more and more OwnVoices books being published, I get that sharing of culture and personal experience as well. I think a non-fiction book on a particular topic goes much deeper into the topic, but I like that I can learn something new, even if it's just a starting point, from a work of fiction.
This is on the heavy side for me, but I love that it's set in the Philippines. I don't think I have ever read a book set there, and really enjoy "seeing" new places when I read.
I am for a different era, and just am not that attached to my phone. I deleted the FB app a long while ago, but I didn't delete my account. I like to use messenger to chat with my daughter. I really only visit Twitter for about a total of 20 minutes a day, and I have a really curated feed.
My favorite color is orange, and I was struggling to find 10 orange books on my read shelf. Blue is really popular though, and I see Emma Mills <3 on your list. The Starbound books are making a lot of lists too. My blue slot was filled by Words in Deep Blue which is one of my favorite books.
I actually got a little emotional reading about the Horn Rock scene. It was a difficult scene to read, so I am not surprised it was difficult to write. Great interview!
I am reading this book right now! It's pretty fun.
I just finished this book this morning and I LOVED it! It was so much more than I was expecting.
Yes. Rev's backstory was as heartbreaking as I thought it would be, and the journey he went on was so necessary. I was happy to be back in this world with Dec and Rev's parents, and we finally know about his name (which was very cool). I saw you give 2/5 for the cover. I remember not thinking much about the cover, but it looked a little better to me after reading the book, and understanding the significance of the text bubbles.
Audiobooks have become such a part of my day now. I struggled at first with them, because i am a very visual learner and my auditory skills were not the best. Then I found that type of books that worked for me in audio format (contemporaries, romances primarily). I listen while I do chores, shop, driving in the car. I knocked 80 books off my TBR last year this way.
Good luck with all your goals!
I really enjoyed this book. It was darker and grittier than my normal read, but I thought Searcy did such a great job weaving the two stories together and keeping me guessing.
