Glad to see this post after our chat the other week! What a bizarre thing to suggest--that writers NEVER review other writers' books? Then, honestly, who else would be left? ;) Just kidding.

It just boggles my mind that the easily offended would suggest a writer not review another book ever again. Goodness! We are becoming a world of bubble wrap and duct tape. Don't expose writers to any sharp edges! Don't open your mouth to say what you really think! If a review I wrote "comes back to haunt me," then I didn't do a good job writing the review.

Amazon needs to keep their paws in their drawers. As a reader, too, I ALWAYS go for reviews by other authors I respect. If I like Rae Carson's book, and Rae Carson loves this series by Veronica Roth, then that is almost a sure bet I'll like Roth's book and it's worth picking up. Author reviews are GREAT for authors!

How silly. Great post, Bev.

Wow. What a well-written and well-researched post on a truly incredible woman! I didn't know that she served in the Clinton administration, and how horrendous he forced her to resign. She was a pioneer. I just LOVE those quotes about masturbation and the war on drugs! Logic and reason are such better rules to live by than superstition, cowardice and dogma. Thanks for sharing her story, Bev!

This is hysterical! I think you touch on a really important point: publish-readiness. Just because you finished a book doesn't mean it's ready for the world to see it. You may feel like Van Gogh, but everyone else will see a 5-year-old scribbling with crayons.

Self-publishing makes it really easy for an author to simply throw their MS online and call it a book. It devalues other self-published authors, too, who work really hard, find editors, get cover designers, and the works.

The worst part of that, in my opinion, is he may very well have written an OK book, that with editing and polishing and hard work could become a great book--but we'll never know because he ejaculated prematurely.

(I HAD TO! I'M SORRY!)

Wow! Great write-up on alternatives to Google Reader, Beverly. You did a lot of research here! Frankly, this is why I never use Google products--they will cancel something at a moment's notice. No use becoming dependent on any of their services. (And yet here I am with a Gmail account--will they decide to suspend that someday, too?)

I ADORE Shasta. I drive by it every time I head south to visit my Californian friends, and usually I stop for gas, if not for a hike or camping. A gorgeous mountain, a cute town--great photos you got, too. I had no idea about the legends behind Shasta, though I'm not surprised. Something so massive!

Oh my gosh, I am so crazy proud of you, Beverly. I bet it's going to be really good for you that yours is the ONLY one marked for explicit content--it'll really stand out from the crowd, and readers will remember you. And especially if you're the only one who used the word "fapalicious"! LOL!

I never knew much about Peggy Lee before this, either! Funny, considering how much I loved that song in Lady and the Tramp growing up--especially that character. She wasn't ashamed of being crazy for the Tramp! Haha. Great post. I want to listen to more of her music now.

Recently, some negative reviews on Chuck Wendig's latest book took him to court for "vulgar language." I wanted to buy the book immediately.

Thanks for the recommendation, Beverly. And even if demons weren't also daemons, or non-evil creatures by nature, it's still fun to mix up the balance between good and evil! I'm definitely going to check out these books. Sounds like my kind of thing.

Pretty disappointed by the cover reveal, though, very amateur.
