I had glasses since I was seven, and my eyes just got progressively worse from there. Never tried out contacts because I'm deathly afraid of sticking things into my eyes--nope, nope, no thanks. Now I have glasses about as thick as the bottom of a beer bottle and have to put my face a literal handspan away from the computer monitor to read without them, and I have yet to find anyone with smaller hands than me! But at least all the wrinkles on that hand look really cool!

Other benefits of having glasses:
-Inflicting pain on unsuspecting glasses-exchangers
-Doing the best labwork when they're off
-Pulling attention away from my giant, flat, asian nose (no, I'm not insecure about that. Not at all. Why do you ask?)

Also, may that token mean girl be cursed with extreme nearsighted-ness for a day :( If my glasses disappeared, I would be so completely fucked. No contacts, and my backup pair is 400 miles away. (Planning ahead? What is that?) I think I'd spend the next few days tripping over everything and accidentally shoving food up my nose instead of my mouth :(

Urgh, that Narnia one was so pretty, but I'm fairly certain the symbolism just wooshed right over my head :(

Ah, Snowmageddon! The reason we got over a week off of school during my senior year. Good times, except of course I was the one who had to shovel our sidewalk and the path to our cars, so I was also sore for that week.

Now that I go to college in Boston, I'm still bitter that the first time there was enough snow here for a snow day in who knows how many years, I was in Denmark.

My parents decided they would drive me to college in Boston from Maryland and race ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

Turns out, no one else is stupid enough to be on the roads during a hurricane, so we made it in record time--about 6 hours instead of the usual 10. My parents then decided that instead of waiting out the hurricane in Boston, they would drive right through the storm back down to Maryland the next day. They called that night to inform me that the drive was even nicer than on the way up.

As an actual driving horror story, now, on another trip between Boston and Maryland, my sister was driving and I was copiloting for her through a snowstorm when the car behind her went into a tailspin and took out the car next to it and behind it, and a third car swerved into the highway divider while trying to avoid it. The road was awfully clear for several miles after that - very few cars behind us or passing us.

Oh good, I'm not alone! I could never quite figure out why, but this book terrified me too. Maybe because of how much huger everything is than the fragile little baby bird. :X

Mindy, did you happen to have posted some years ago a story about a woman with a love potion accidentally making a guy fall in love with his wine glass? Because these stories instantly reminded me of that one and the others on the same site it was on, but I can't find that site anymore. (The illustrations have a similar style to what I remember as well.)
