Like Wendy, I had no idea what went to making cane. The finished buttons are beautiful, and it was fun to get to see the process. Is it running the stacks through the extruder that makes the circles inside the square? So cool!

I love that video - Ira Glass is wonderful and I get a lot out of his shows in general. Making creativity and art a regular practice definitely helps with inspiration. When it's a habit, you don't have to bother thinking about the act of making something, you can just make.

Although I'm a big believer in living small and simply, a two-bedroom apartment with four kids and a dog might be more challenge than I would be ready for. That being said, although there are wonderful things about growing up in the suburbs, cities have so much to offer, especially when you live right in the heart.

A friend of mine raised her son in Los Angeles, which is definitely a crazier place than Seattle, and he turned out awesome. They took him to tons of cultural events and I think it really added a lot to his upbringing. He just got accepted into his dream college.

So I think kids that grow up in the city can have some great experiences. Personally, I like a little country and a little city the best, so wherever you end up, it's great if they can have lots of city AND country experiences.

Sounds like a great adventure. Enjoy Seattle!
