i wrote about this on Monday over at Babble. like you, i think it's bullshit. however, about an hour after i wrote, i noticed that Lisa Belkin at NYT's parenting blog, Motherlode, had two guest bloggers who argue that the study has been misinterpreted by the media and blogosphere. though i understood where Lisa's guest bloggers were coming from, i'm not sure i'm w/ them 100%.

the bottom line is this: if there really are women out there who nag their guys when they attempt caregiving, they will eventually bring about something known as learned helplessness — where men essentially say "fuck it. she bitches at me when i do it, so i won't do it."

then, of course, these women will probably turn around 2 years later and bitch about the fact that all the men do is give piggy back rides to the kids. women can't have it both ways.

men, for that matter, can't either. if we're serious about fatherhood, show up for bath time. not just the airplane rides.

if you're interested in reading my perspective, here's the link — post called Mommy Makes Yummy Dinners, Daddy Gives Killer Piggy Back Rides

also, you should read Belkin's guest bloggers post at the NYT for the other perspective.

the read-my-blog-so-i'll-read-your-blog approach is inevitable to a certain degree, yet also a phase that must be grown out of for a blog to become legitimate. at least in my opinion. if not, blogs are little more than the economy of a grateful dead show.

the pizza guy buys a bracelet from the bracelet guy who buys a hacky sack from the hacky sack guy...who buys pizza from the pizza guy.

interesting read as always, jack. tell that superman fellow hello, too.

right on jack. w/ regard to amazon, i just wish they would say what they mean and mean what they say. not hide behind the nobility of the first amendment. IMHO, they're, well, to quote my post—stupid bitches.

i'm w/ adam. the defense that amazon put up was as inexcusable as it was impotent. this is not a first amendment issue

does it come with a handful of dick pills? just curious. our experiences suggest that it probably does.

all the best,

RIGHT ON, BROTHER. first time back on the site in a long while, and i really liked what i read here. it's funny -- i just wrote an "internet safety" post on babble a couple of monday's ago. it's aim was to offer six rules of thumb to keep your kids safer online. i had run across the article on ABC news dot com and thought that their suggestions were fantastic and essentially passed the info along w/ my two cents added here and there.

two things struck me as profound. number 1 -- the vast majority of suggestions were things that could be applied IRL as well as online. but when you stop and think about it, that actually makes sense b/c virtual has become real in this day and age. number 2 -- the best suggestion was, as jim said in his comment -- the golden rule. Do unto others...

the internet is a tricky place. generally speaking, i've found that you catch more flies with honey. that said, i have opinions and i'm not afraid to share them, but i also prefer (to try) to do so with class and respect.

hurt feelings suck. all the way around. as wonderful as this post was, you saved the best for last.

"Because when the lights go out and you are left alone with your thoughts your conscience will always let you know whether you did right or wrong."

well done, sir.

i'd just like to take this opportunity to point out that i am, indeed, EXACTLY what i represent on my own blog, if not more.

that's right. i'm EVERY bit as short as i claim to be, just as fat, and certainly, beyond question, just as bald, too. on my pate.

recognize.

checked back in to read more comments and was glad to see all the support. have a good weekend. (and i hope you're not reading this. at least not until Monday...)
