After reading Alcott's dreadful "The Long and Fatal Love Chase" I can easily believe it's cheesy. I think I'll pass.

The only Dickens I've ever read is A Christmas Carol. Favourite Christmas stories? Cliche I know, but I still like Gift of the Magi. I also quite like Stuart McLean's Christmas stories.

I've often wondered about the pre-game notion, seeing as Americans celebrate Thanksgiving so close to Christmas. In Canada, it doesn't really feel that way as it's in October. At most, it feels slightly connected to Halloween, but not by much.

As for Thanksgiving traditions, it seems to be a pretty low key affair here. As I'm from Newfoundland, every turkey feast must be accompanied by salted beef, and often peas pudding.

Anyway, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

Can't say the title does anything for me.

Like you, it was a long time ago that I read this. I was a big fan of Poe's as a teenager, but also like you, I'm sure I did not get all the references at that age.

It was over four years ago that I read this story and while I remembered enjoying it, I remembered few details-- thanks for the reminder.

It does sound quite playful.

I think I'd find the dialect a little overdone, but hopefully I'd get used to it.

Doesn't sound like one of the stories that got the book banned, though!

Hmmm, I guess we all know people like this. Sad, as you say, and it must be interesting as a reader. Sounds like Fitzgerald was able to instill some sympathy, but that's always easier for an outsider.
